My lesson learned this week: It is possible to stand your ground and get what you want. I keep remembering what my Grandmommie used to tell me, "You can get more flies with honey than you can with vinegar." Just because someone tries to play you, it doesn't mean you have to go off on them, just politely remind them- and you can still get your way. My mother used to tell me "Don't burn your bridges."
People are ALWAYS going to try you, if you go off on everyone that does in the end who will be left? You NEVER know when in the future you may need to ask that person for a favor, either way the situation went in the past just as you remember it so will they. Don't want to teach them a lesson about how civilized, dignified, intelligent people behave?
The sad thing is that it really took me this long to get it. I wish they were here to see it. You know I say that because I want you to realize, if you already don't, that almost 95% of the things your loved ones are telling you is actually right. Most people give advise based on their life's experiences. When people do this it is because they want to alot you the freedom not to make the same mistakes that they did. Now everyone has to live their own life and make their own mistakes, but I cannot tell you how many times in recent years that I have had to painfully admit and sorrowfully understand that my mother was right all along.
